UPDATE: Turns out that some intrepid individual grabbed the @DCCouncil handle before the folks at the Wilson Building could, so the @dccitycouncil account has been renamed @councilofdc. Given the circumstances, we’re also expecting some kind of hilarity from the @DCCouncil feed.

ORIGINAL POST: What is this “D.C. City Council” you speak of, Twitter feed of the District’s legislative body? We here at DCist are unfamiliar with such an organization. We certainly know of the “D.C. Council,” and also the “Council of the District of Columbia,” but not this “city council.”

Of course, the great thing about Twitter is that things can change pretty rapidly — the Council’s already established a new feed with the far more appropriate name of @DCCouncil. Kudos to whoever was actually reading the peanut gallery this morning for the responsiveness.
