>> Four suspects stole a cash box with around $200 in it from girl scouts selling cookies outside a Walmart in Bowie, Md. One of the girl scouts told NBC4 that the money was going to charity.
>> Five teenagers have been charged with robbery and assault by a mob for beating two kids in Prince William County who refused to hand over their Halloween candy. Four of the teenagers are juveniles and their names have not been released. The fifth alleged robber, 19-year-old Andre Diggs, is being held without bond.
>> Last week, a woman walked into a Frederick family’s home, headed to the bathroom, locked herself in there, and then emerged “butt naked”, except for a short, red jacket that was unzipped. She then headed into the garage, where the family — who did not know the woman — locked her until the police arrived. By the time police got there, the woman had escaped. With a little help from neighbors, they caught up with Conyett Summers, 31, about a mile up the road. Frederick police believe Summers was under the influence. They arrested and charged her with fourth-degree burglary.
>> Frederick County is cracking down on illegal immigrants after a recent arrest in a local murder. Twenty one-year-old Jose Mejia-Varela, who was back in Frederick after being deported to El Salvador in 2009, was charged in the murder of manager Jacinta “Patty” Ayala at a local Burger King. WUSA9 reports: “’We feel there is an issue,’ County Commission President Blaine Young, who is supporting a package of tough local proposals aimed at making Frederick County as unwelcoming as possible for illegal immigrants.”
>> Maurice Dews, 27, of D.C., pleaded guilty Friday to five counts of arson and other charges. He’s been setting fires in the District for 3 1/2 years. In once instance, he set fire to a vacant single-family home the 800 block of 48th Place Northeast, and then called 911 and knocked on the door of the home next door to alert the family about the fire. His plea agreement calls for 25 years in jail.
