UPDATE: It looks like all the streets which were closed due to the investigation have been reopened. Authorities are still on the scene investigating; no injuries have been reported.
D.C. emergency personnel have responded to the scene of what witnesses are calling a “big” gas leak around the Cosmos Club at 2121 Massachusetts Avenue NW this morning.
The gas line to the club and the surrounding buildings along Massachusetts Avenue, Florida Avenue and 21st Street was turned shut off, and authorities were conducting air monitoring in various locations around the scene, including several evacuated buildings.
Authorities are currently asking people to avoid the area, as Massachusetts Avenue, Florida Avenue and 21st Street, Q Street and R Street have been shut down to both vehicular and pedestrian traffic.
