Good morning, Washington. Well, Wheel of Fortune champion Rex Grossman is not the savior the Redskins were looking for. (Duh?) Yesterday’s loss to the moribund Miami Dolphins, the team’s fifth defeat on the hop, even has some in the media wondering if the team was better before Mike Shanahan took over. Sure, the team isn’t playing well, but were the people asking that question around when Jim Zorn was in charge?

Violence in Northeast: Authorities are scanning video footage recorded by a U6 Metrobus, aboard which a man was shot on Sunday. Two shots entered the rear window of the bus at 37th Street and Ridge Road NE early Sunday morning, one of which struck a male passenger, who was then transported to a local hospital. Another man was shot in the quadrant early this morning; he died after being shot in the face on the 500 block of Edgewood Street NE.

Missing Persons Are Usually Repeat Youth Runaways: It’s obvious that the District has a real problem with managing its youth offenders. But now comes news that four out of every five missing person cases investigated by the Metropolitan Police Department are youths from group homes. A new report by the D.C. Inspector General reports that while runaway youths are shockingly common (one youth was reported missing 39 times between March and December 2009), MPD is also complicit in the problem, often not investigating the reports and failing to close cases when youths are found.

Anyone For Liquidation?: If you’re a golf or tennis aficionado, you’ve probably stopped in at the Drilling Tennis & Golf Shop at some point over the last four decades. But the store will soon be closing — the Post reports that economic decline will claim Marion Barry’s favorite local sporting goods shop, which will close at the end of the year.
