What’s that? You say you already thought that the CityMarket at O Street development in Shaw had already broken ground? Yeah, not so much.

That September 2010 groundbreaking was far more ceremonial than even jaded observers imagined — but today, Mayor Vince Gray and friends swung by for the actual groundbreaking on the project, approximately 14 months or so after a shovel first hit dirt on the site. (We know they’re really serious this time, since they took a big swing at the existing structure with a piece of demolition equipment — plus, they recently got their financing in order.)

You can keep an eye on the construction of the development on these live cameras; the complex — which features a new Giant grocery, a hotel, and mixed-income residences — is expected to be completed some time in 2013.
