In the 2008 Democratic primary, 85 percent of Ward 8 voters gave then-Senator Barack Obama their vote. In the November general, it was 99 percent.

Looking towards 2012, though, Obama might have a tougher time attracting the support he did four years ago — mostly because his campaign seems to have lopped off Ward 8 altogether.

A tipster pointed us to Obama’s campaign’s state lapel pins, where the District lost a majority of its southernmost tip, exactly where a good chunk of Ward 8 would be located. Maryland doesn’t come off much better, sadly — it seems to have handed over its eastern-most lands to Delaware.

To Obama’s credit, he actually included the District to begin with. Hey, we’ve got three electoral votes to give. That being said, the flub certainly targets the wrong place. The District already lost a good part of itself to Virginia, and plenty of folks think that what’s left of it should just be retroceeded back to Maryland. We’ve only got 69 square miles of the 100 we started with, and we can’t afford to lose anymore!
