The District’s Office of Human Rights ruled yesterday that Catholic University’s single-sex dorms don’t violate the city’s Human Rights Act, reports the AP.

After the university reverted to same-sex dorms earlier this year, an especially litigious law professor at George Washington University filed suit, claiming that the dorms constituted discrimination under District law.

According to the city’s ruling, though, single-sex dorms would be no more discriminatory than single-sex bathrooms or locker rooms.

It’s a win for Catholic University President John Garvey, but it’s hardly the end of his legal battles. Garvey is still busy fighting a provision of President Barack Obama’s healthcare law that he says would force the university to make contraceptives available to students. Moreover, the George Washington professor who filed the suit, John Banzhaf, has filed another complaint against the university, accusing it of discriminating against Muslim students.
