Good morning, Washington. It’s really not a good season for the Washington Redskins, who not only had to contend with a defeat at the hands of the New York Jets yesterday but now stand to lose two players for what’s left of the season. The AP is reporting that left tackle Trent Williams and tight end Fred Davis will likely receive four-game suspensions for failing drug tests earlier in the season. This would be the second time for both that they’ve tested positive, says the AP.
Johnsons to be Sentenced This Week: Former Prince George’s County Executive Jack Johnson and his wife Leslie are set to be sentenced this week for their role in a massive corruption scandal that ended both of their careers in public service and may result in substantial jail time, reports the Examiner. Johnson pleaded guilty earlier this year for using his office to extort $1 million in bribes from developers, while his wife admitted to trying to cover up his misdeeds by flushing a $100,000 check down the toilet and stuffing close to $80,000 in her underwear during a police raid. Jack Johnson could face a prison sentence of between 14 and 20 years on Tuesday, while Leslie Johnson might be slapped with a sentence of 12 to 18 months on Friday.
Ward 4 Residents Sue Over Wal-Mart Site: Wal-Mart recently announced that it would be opening six stores in the District, but because almost all of those stores are opening on private property and without government assistance, there’s not much that District residents can do to stop them. But according to the Washington Business Journal, some Ward 4 residents are certainly trying, having filed a lawsuit over the historic status of the Brightwood Car Barn on Georgia Avenue, which a Wal-Mart hopes to replace for a store. In October, the Historic Preservation Review Board refused to grant the car barn, which was once used to store streetcars, the status. allowing for its demolition to move forward.
Obama Readies Virginia Campaign: According to WAMU, President Obama has started what is likely to be a hard fight for his 2012 re-election hopes in Virginia, opening offices throughout the commonwealth and getting volunteers ready for the tough months to come. In 2008, Obama won Virginia with 52 percent of the vote, and it’s a battleground state for his re-election campaign.

This Day in DCist: On this day in 2010, American University students tackled a city divided and we found out which parts of the District were photographed most often. In 2009, we prepared for our first snowpocalypse of the season, Harry Jackson warned of revenge of biblical proportions and we traveled down memory lane with Butterstick.
