Good morning, Washington. It’s Friday, and there’s lots of news to be had, so let’s get straight to it.

Suspect in Virginia Tech Shooting Said to Have Shot Himself: After a tense day yesterday at Virginia Tech, police are saying that the suspect who shot and killed police officer Deriek W. Crouse — a father of five — subsequently turned the gun on himself. According to WTOP, Virginia State Police are confirming that both were shot by the same handgun. The Post additionally reports that the university reaction to the incident was exactly what it should have been, and a dramatic improvement over the sluggish way university officials handled the 2007 shooting when Seung Hui Cho killed 32 people.

Occupy Protesters and Unions Have Tense Relationship: Despite the joint actions on Wednesday, there seems to be a certain amount of tension between the Occupy D.C. protesters and union-led efforts that set up camp on the National Mall this week, writes the Examiner. The Take Back the Capitol movement has participated in a number of protests focused on having Congress pass President Obama’s jobs bill, a goal that not all Occupy D.C. protesters share. Additionally, some of the Occupy D.C. protesters feel that the Mall-based campers, backed by SEIU, are trying to co-opt them.

D.C. Leads Country in Peace Corps Per Capita: The Post reports that the District leads the country in terms of former Peace Corps members per capita, coming in at 8.4 per 100,000 residents. In terms of sheer numbers, the region is second to New York/New Jersey; the latter has 393 former members, our area 372.

Not Really Sure How We Missed This…: …but here’s Mayor Vince Gray dancing go-go while sitting at his desk in the Wilson Building. It’s not hand dancing, but it’ll do.

This Day in DCist: On this day in 2010, a group of protesters planned a temporary gallery for A Fire in my Belly, Kaya Henderson started making moves and Marion Barry’s reality show was about as good as anyone would expect. In 2009, an ANC commissioner demanded that Congress force a vote on same-sex marriage, Jawbox rocked Jimmy Fallon and we wondered if Vince Gray fence was turning into a -gate.
