Good morning, Washington. Someone in the Wilson Building must have read Tim Craig’s story Saturday about how the District government has done very little in 2011 between the Council’s frequent scandals and Mayor Vince Gray’s perceived failure to lay out a broad agenda for the city. In the Post today, Craig reports Gray is trying to win the embrace of Washington’s progressives and environmentalists with his new “Sustainable D.C.” program, which while still murky, appears to talk big about installing solar panels, urban gardens and bike paths. “The jury is still out,” the head of the Sierra Club’s D.C. chapter tells Craig.

Shootout on Clay Terrace: A man, allegedly high on PCP, fired a gun at houses on the 5300 block of Clay Terrace NE several times last night before being shot and killed by police. WRC-TV and just about everyone else covered the scene, which MPD Chief Cathy Lanier dropped by. No word if anyone else was struck.

Mop-Up Job: Washington Gas Light Co. will clean up a stretch of land on the Anacostia River in a deal struck with the city and the Interior Department. Interior Secretary Ken Salazar called the agreement a “milestone.” The Post’s Darryl Frears also talks to the Anacostia Watershed Society’s advocacy director, Brent Bolin, who says the cleanup, which stems from the now-dismantled East Station site on Water Street SE, is “100 years in the making.”

Hell On Grills: Ray’s Hell Burger famously takes only one kind of payment—cash. Last week, three armed robbers walked in and emptied the restaurant’s register at gunpoint. The burglary was first reported in a comment thread under an ArlNow story about another robbery in Rosslyn. Washingtonian talked yesterday with chef and owner Michael Landrum, who was not at the White House-loved burger joint when it was robbed.

Briefly Noted: D.C. ethics bill also would apply to ANC members … Lydia DePillis offers some Andy Shallal-isms on noise complaints … Greater Greater Washington contributor believes in the Alexandria Waterfront … Maryland officials are really sick of flash mobsHeadless Santa in public square.

This Day in DCist: This time last year, we realized the Examiner isn’t quite the Justice League of America and let cranky fandom settle in for the remainder of the NFL season. In 2009, we celebrated change in Trinidad but lamented the Caps falling apart.
