Good morning, Washington, and a Happy Boxing Day to you all. It’ll be a quiet day, what with most employees of federal and local governments having today off. But in case you’re working (or bored), here are some links to get your day going.

The First Avenger: Twelve years before Medgar Evars was killed, a Florida civil rights leader named Harry Tyson Moore and his wife were killed in 1951 in a Christmas Day bombing that was probably organized by the Ku Klux Klan. Since the 1951 attack, their daughter, Evangeline Moore, has been pressing investigators to find the killers. Moore, who today lives in Bowie, gets a nice profile in the Post today. Moore, now 81, hasn’t had much luck in getting the Justice Department to keep the file on her parents’ deaths open, “but she will not stop her fight. She plans to reach out to investigators after the holidays and has spoken with a filmmaker about her parents.”

A Very Occupy Christmas: McPherson Square emptied out a bit over the weekend. (Don’t worry. They Occupiers say they’ll be back for New Year’s and beyond.) But for those that stayed, so did Laura Potter, one of the encampment’s medics. “I really feel like I’m needed here,” she tells WAMU.

Briefly Noted: Capital Bikeshare’s not fizzling, we’re just low on tourists right now … FBI has Quantico shooting range; local deer population also enjoys shooting range … Libya’s man in Washington on serving, then turning against, Qaddafi … Virginia resident says he will organize write-in campaign after neglecting to collect signatures for Virginia presidential primary … Another successful weekend in Landover.

This Day in DCist: In 2010, Megabus fail is weather-related, and Internet service provider fail is just chronic. In 2009, it was a busy Christmas for MPD, and thanks to Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab (the attempted underwear bomber), an even busier holiday for airport security.
