Chad Clark and his band Beauty Pill spent a good chunk of July and August holed up inside the Black Box Theatre at Artisphere in Rosslyn. During the band’s sessions there, onlookers could peer through a window above the makeshift recording space and watch the group record its first album since 2004’s The Unsustainable Lifestyle.

The sessions were called Immersive Ideal, and photographed and recorded extensively. Washington City Paper Arts Editor Jonathan L. Fischer visited the band several times during its residency at Artisphere, capturing the art-rock band back at work a few years after Clark endured a very close brush with death.

With the new album wrapped and ready to be heard, the finished project of Immersive Ideal is set to go on display next week. The exhibit, which runs January 7-22, features a chronology of images from the recording sessions presented in a user-interactive, monome-controlled display.

DCist Music Editor Valerie Paschall spoke with Clark during the summer recording sessions. We’ll be posting the interview next week. Immersive Ideal‘s free opening party is January 7 at 7 p.m. at Artisphere (1101 Wilson Boulevard, Arlington).
