There’s not much going on tonight so use this opportunity to discover some local bands at the Velvet Lounge. Accidents, Left & Right and Grammar will be playing. $10 for those 18-20/$8 for those 21+ 9:00 p.m.
WEDNESDAY
We haven’t heard much from Garland of Hours‘ Amy Domingues recently, but she’s apparently been hard at work on new material because tonight marks her CD release party for their third album, Lucidia at the Black Cat. Her band for tonight will be Mary Timony on guitar, Jonah Takagi on bass, and Stefan Bauschmid on drums. Her opener will be another cellist, Gordon Withers of Jawbox on Cello/Office of Future Plans fame. $8, 8:00 p.m.
THURSDAY
Another strong night at the Black Cat for local music. Grey March, Dot Dash and History Repeated will be in the house. Dot Dash includes former members of rock stalwarts such as Julie Ocean, A Modest Proposal and Swervedriver. History Repeated is the latest project from John Stabb of Government Issue. $12, 8:00 p.m.
FRIDAY
They serve us booze, sell us tickets, stamp our hands and make vegan lasagna, but some of the folks on Black Cat staff are musicians in their own right. We already knew that The Shirks, The Aquarium and The Max Levine Ensemble had Cat employees in their lineup but during The Workers Party at Black Cat, we’ll get to hear from some bands we haven’t heard from as much: Mean Season, Booze Riot, The Red Moon Preachers and Raindeer. We’re looking forward to it. $5, 9:00 p.m.
Rock and Roll Hotel: Akron/Family, Bad Weather California. $12 in advance/$14 day of show, 8:00 p.m.
SATURDAY
It’s been a long time coming. Beauty Pill spent much of July and August recording an album in the black box space at Artisphere under the watchful eyes of the museum’s patrons. Tonight Immersive Ideal has their opening party at Artisphere where you’ll not only get to hear the completed album in the space where it was recorded but also see photos from the recording sessions, some of which were taken by our own Nestor Diaz. Free, 7:00 p.m.
Rock and Roll Hotel: Dance for the Dying, Hiding Places, Chappo, The Velvet Ants. $10, 9:00 p.m.
Iota: Cobra Collective, Nikki and the Weeps, The Danvilles. $10, 9:00 p.m.
SUNDAY
Grammy Award-winning guitarist Eric Johnson has been playing his jazz/rock/country hybrid since the late ’60s and tonight he’ll be coming to the Birchmere. He’s a proficient pianist as well, so you may also get to witness some instrumental musical chairs. $35, 7:00 p.m.
