CLASSICAL MUSIC: You may not be one for classical music, but you also may not be able to avoid it tonight — and that could be a good thing. As part of an initiative to be out and about in the District, the National Symphony Orchestra will be at Acre 121 in Columbia Heights tonight (7 p.m., Free) and Busboys and Poets on 14th Street (7 p.m., Free).
MOVIES AND BEER: The Arlington Cinema & Drafthouse has Moneyball at 7:10 p.m. and Drive at 9:50 p.m. $5.50 per show.
ROCKIN’ CELLO: We haven’t heard much from Garland of Hours‘ Amy Domingues recently, but she’s apparently been hard at work on new material because tonight marks her CD release party for their third album, Lucidia, at the Black Cat. Her band for tonight will be Mary Timony on guitar, Jonah Takagi on bass, and Stefan Bauschmid on drums. Her opener will be another cellist, Gordon Withers of Jawbox on Cello/Office of Future Plans fame. 8 p.m., $8.
HIP HOP: Though she’s made a name herself lately for contributing to projects by 4Hero and Silhouette Brown, Philly native Lady Alma is a talented vocalist in her own right. She’ll be performing two shows tonight at Blues Alley at 8 and 10 p.m. $20
JAZZ: Originally from Buenos Aires, Argentina, vocalist Sofia Rei is now based in New York and is gaining notice for her soulful blend of traditional South American rhythms, jazz harmonies and electronic colors. Rei will bring her unique sound to the Millennium Stage tonight for a 6 p.m. show, supporting her latest release, Sube Azul. Free.
READING & SIGNING: If you’re looking for the book on the last 12 presidents, Nigel Hamilton’s American Caesars: Lives of the Presidents from Franklin D. Roosevelt to George W. Bush might be for you. Hamilton will be discussing the book and signing copies in the bookstore of the National Portrait Gallery this evening. 6-7 p.m. Free.
