Mooking and SanchezIt’s been a while since we’ve had a big name TV foodie come through town — remember when Anthony Bourdain’s No Reservations was here? — so today’s news that the Food Network’s Heat Seekers hit an Eastern Market spot is certainly noteworthy.
According to Councilmember Tommy Wells (D-Ward 6), Aarón Sanchez and Roger Mooking are visiting hot dog eatery DC-3 today, where they will sample some of the offerings to see how hot they are. (Calls to DC-3 to get more details were not picked up, sadly.)
According to Roll Call writer Jessica Estepa, the restaurant is currently closed for the filming of the segment. The folks over at Barracks Row Main Street got a picture of camera crews inside the restaurant, which is owned by the same people who own Matchbox and Ted’s Bulletin, both of which are on the same strip.
Sanchez tweeted earlier today that today was “another day” shooting the show in D.C., so there may be a few more local restaurants that the duo hit for the show. There’s a hint out there that they visited Cava Mezze, too, and Mooking apparently toured Chinatown earlier today. (One pho place had broth that “smelled like urine,” it seems.) He also strolled around town, snapping pictures of the White House and the Occupy D.C. encampment at McPherson Square. The show’s new season premieres on Monday.
As for Wells, he settled for the Philly Cheesesteak hot dog and a 16-ounce PBR. Now that’s our type of weekday lunch.
