When local stores close, there’s usually a period of consumer mourning. And then there’s the clearance sales.
Penn Camera, which declared bankruptcy last week and shuttered five of its eight area stores, is in the midst of clearing out inventory at its remaining locations — E Street, Rockville and Tysons Corner. The retailer is offering 10 percent off on cameras and lenses, 20 percent off of all dark room and cases, and 30 percent off on all albums and frames.
In related news, Melody Records, which also announced its closing last week, is running a clearance sale of its own, knocking 20 percent off of all products until they sell out the store’s inventory. Barnes & Noble, though, didn’t put on a sale at all (unlike Borders), but the news has been confirmed — a Nike store is coming to the old book store’s location along M Street.
So go and shop.
