FRIDAY

FOOD & DRINK: Alexandria Restaurant Week kicks off tonight, overlapping with the last two days of DC Restaurant Week, and runs through January 22. Over 50 Alexandria restaurants are participating, with some, including The Majestic, Las Tapas, Virtue Feed & Grain, offering three-course menus for $35, and others, like Pizzeria Paradiso and Cheesetique, offering an even better deal: a $35 meal for two.

PARTY: Even if you don’t have tickets for the sold-out Thievery Corporation show at the 9:30 Club tonight, you can still attend the official after party at Eighteenth Street Lounge (1212 18th Street NW) with DJ Pleasuremaker. 10 p.m. $5, unless you attended the concert, then free.

MUSIC: DTMD and Tabi Bonney play the Black Cat (1811 14th Street NW). 9 p.m. $15.

>> Meow vs. Meow, Vinny Vegas, and Pompeii Graffiti take the stage at the Velvet Lounge (915 U Street NW). 10 p.m. $8.

SATURDAY

MUSIC: The innovative music duo Bluebrain, who’ve scored your visit to the Natural History Museum and created two location-aware albums, invite you to a Boombox Walk at the United States Botanic Garden (100 Maryland Avenue SW) Saturday. Bring your own cassette, CD or MP3 player, and Bluebrain will provide the music. Email them at bluebrainmusic@gmail.com to let them know which player you’re bringing, so they can make you a tape or CD, or email you an MP3. 3 p.m. Free.

WINE: Come out for Crystal City’s (2200 Crystal Drive Arlington VA) indoor 1K Wine Walk this Saturday and Sunday. Participants receive 20 wine tasting tickets, cheese and crackers, and a commemorative t-shirt. Is beer more your drink of choice? Attend next weekend’s 1K Beer Walk. Wine walk tickets are $40 and are still available for the 3 p.m., 4 p.m., 4:30 p.m., 5 p.m., and 5:30 p.m. time slots.

FOOD & DRINK: Take a class on vegan meals and learn how to make quinoa squash miso soup, a black bean burger with grilled onion rings, and blanched broccoli with pumpkin seeds sauce at the Smith Center for Healing and the Arts (1632 U Street NW) this Saturday. 10 a.m.-12 p.m. $25.

MAGIC: See a magic show at the Red Palace (1212 H Street NE) tonight. Of course, since it’s the Red Palace, there will also be burlesque. The Love Show’s Sex Magic event goes on at 10 p.m. (doors open at 9:30 p.m.). $15.

DANCE: The KanKouran West African Dance Company gives their annual performance to honor Martin Luther King Jr. at the Dance Place (3225 8th Street NE) this Saturday at 8 p.m. and Sunday at 4 p.m. Tickets: $8-$22.

COMEDY: George Lopez performs standup at DAR Constitution Hall (1776 D Street NW) Saturday. 8 p.m. Tickets: $58.

SUNDAY

TATTOOS: Sunday is the final day of the DC Tattoo Expo at the Crystal Gateway Marriott (1700 Jefferson Davis Highway Arlington VA). The event showcases local and national tattoo artists, features a tattoo of the day contest, and has vendors and entertainment. 12-8 p.m.

MUSIC: the NRIs play Galaxy Hut (2711 Wilson Boulevard Arlington VA) Sunday with Loser Leaves Town. 9 p.m. $5.

>>Moombacon Massive at the Rock & Roll Hotel (1353 H Street NE) Sunday is an evening of food (bacon, fried chicken, ribs) and music, featuring a half dozen DJs. 9 p.m.-close. Free.
