>> Roy Ayers catalog and influence on other artists and producers are too immense to reduce to a few sentences. The L.A. native who brought us “Everybody Loves the Sunshine” and “DC City” starts a four-day, two-shows-a-night run tonight at Blues Alley this evening. $40. 8 p.m. and 10 p.m.
>> Monique Bingham has been the voice on a number of songs in the house and electronic music realm dating back to the mid-1990s. She’ll be singing some of those tracks at Liv where Sam Burns and Tee Alford will handle DJ duties. $8 in advance / $15 at the door. 9 p.m.
>> “Afrobeat For Ya Soul!” returns for its monthly occurrence at Bossa. DJ Underdog will again be providing the sounds. $5. 10 p.m.
Friday:
>> Spoken word artist Bomani Armah is a regular and popular figure in the area’s poetry performance circles. He’ll be at Axum with his band Immaletchufinish as well as Lady Pcoq & the Plumes and DJ D’Salaam. $10 in advance. 9:30 p.m.
>> Philly-bred DJ King Britt will be this week’s featured performer for “Red Fridays” at U Street Music Hall. Sleepy & Boo are also on the bill. Free for those 21 years and older / $5-$10 for ages 18-20 in advance. 10 p.m.
>> It’s not often that three DJs the caliber of Ron Trent, Danny Krivit and Louis P are on the same bill but that will be the case tonight. The house luminaries will be at the Warehouse Loft (411 New York Avenue NE). $15. 11 p.m.
Saturday:
>> The year 1958 saw the birth of three pop music luminaries: Prince, Madonna and Michael Jackson. So while we’re sure that year had its share of great tunes, DJ Dredd‘s “1958” party will instead be celebrating the songbooks of the aforementioned artists at the Rock and Roll Hotel. $13. 8 p.m.
>> San Francisco producer/DJ J Boogie is taking to the Eighteenth Street Lounge‘s for at set. $TBA. 9:30 p.m.
>> After a brief hiatus, the “Axel F” party is back to celebrate its 1st year of existence. While DJs Jahsonic, Stylus and Adrian Loving will still be manning the decks spinning “lazer boogie” and “champagne soul” tunes created between 1977 and 1987, there will be a special performance by the Sexual Chocolate Band (consisting of Zo!, Phonte,Debórah Bond, Ne’a Posey and N’digo Rose). As usual, everything will take place at Liv. $10 in advance / $15 at the door. 10 p.m.
Sunday:
>> There will be a final viewing of the film, The Furious Force of Rhymes, at the Shirlington Busboys and Poets. In this edition, a panel titled “Blurring the Lines: Journalist, Scholars & Fans” will take place consisting of Amanda Bassa (Hip-Hop DX), Saaret Yoseph (The Redline D.C.
