Another weekend means another round of sometimes difficult-to-navigate Metrorail service advisories. Once again, sections of the Blue and Orange lines are going quiet for more track work and—in this instance—sludge removal.

Per Metro’s announcement, the Arlington Cemetery and Rosslyn stations will be closed from 10 p.m. tonight through Sunday evening. There will be shuttles replacing the Orange Line between Foggy Bottom and Courthouse and the Blue Line between Foggy Bottom and Pentagon running in continuous loops, but it might be more prudent for anyone trying to get to, say, Artisphere’s exhibit of Everitt Clark’s photographs of Northern Virginia suburbia, to walk or bike across the Key Bridge.

Additionally, the Orange Line, broken in to fragments with the closure of the Rosslyn station at its busy midsection. Trains between Vienna and Courthouse will run every 20 minutes, while those between Foggy Bottom and New Carrollton will operate on a normal weekend schedule.

On the Blue Line, trains will run between Foggy Bottom and Largo Town Center just fine, but Virginia leg of the route will be diverted over the Yellow Line bridge before ending at Mt. Vernon Square.

Metro says the stretches of track being closed this weekend are due for new rail fasteners and insulators and, being beneath the surface of the Potomac River, the periodic removal of sludge build-up. We know Metro employees like their music—earlier this week, while sealing off the southern entrance of the Dupont Circle station, Social Media Manager Brian Anderson tweeted out some lyrics from Sarah McLachlan’s “I Will Remember You.”

For the crews about to spend the weekend de-gunking the Blue and Orange lines, may we recommend some Electric Wizard?
