Wake up sleepy heads, the news broke with the dawn this Saturday and we were up early to make sure you’d be able to read it with your morning coffee.

>>U.S. Park Police raided the Occupy D.C. camp at McPherson Square early Saturday morning to continue enforcing its rules against camping. Protesters were asked to remove the large tarp draped over the historic statue the square is named for. They complied and the so-called “Tent of Dreams” was removed.

“We are not evicting people from the park,” said Phil Beck, U.S. Park Police captain. “We are asking folks to come into compliance.”

Surrounding roads and the Vermont Avenue Metro entrance are closed until further notice.

>>District food trucks started an online petition this week asking the D.C. Council to adopt new regulations for vending that would allow them to park in any legal parking space. The Restaurant Association of Metropolitan Washington is not pleased with the new rules. Firing back in their own Internet campaign, the association contends that the proposed regulations fall short of following the existing law that says food trucks must be parked in designated vending areas.

>> The man charged with killing Washington socialite, Viola Drath in her Georgetown home is going on a hunger strike of his own, refusing to eat in jail while he awaits indictment. Albrecht Muth was hospitalized for undisclosed reasons and unable to appear in court on Friday, it is unclear whether his refusal to eat is the cause.
