Police are investigating after a man’s body was found dead Sunday morning just off the National Mall near the bank of the Potomac River.
The deceased, whom a Metropolitan Police Department spokesman described as an adult white male, was found shot about 8 a.m. in the 2300 block of Ohio Drive SW, not far from the Lincoln Memorial. The deceased, who has not yet been identified, was found by employees of the National Park Service.
Although the investigation is still ongoing, there are no indicators of foul play and the death appears to be a suicide, the spokesman said.
Police tape surrounded the immediate area for several hours Sunday morning, though tourists headed toward the Lincoln Memorial were not impeded, and roads near the site were open to traffic by noon, the Post reported.
