The music on Late Night With Jimmy Fallon is getting an injection of D.C.-bred synth-pop tonight when Painted Face, the on-stage persona of Allie Alvarado, joins Brooklyn dream-gazers School of Seven Bells tonight.
Painted Face has shared a ticket with School of Seven Bells before, such as an October 2010 set at the Rock N Roll Hotel. Alvarado will be playing keys tonight, she says. She was the subject of a Three Stars interview in February 2011, and anyone who’s heard “Undreamt” or any of her other tracks knows that Alvarado channels a Kate Bush-like raw and sultry emotiveness into endlessly danceable cloudbursts.
Though he might be an insufferable goofball at times—well, OK, just about all the time—Jimmy Fallon has been kind to the D.C. music scene. Jawbox reunited on his stage in December 2009, Chuck Brown joined house band The Roots in September 2010 and last year, The Dismemberment Plan stopped by on the eve of their epic three-show weekend in January 2011. (Roots frontman Ahmir “Questlove” Thompson was impressed.)
And now Painted Face is the latest D.C. act to get on the Late Night stage. Good on her. Though it’s a School of Seven Bells performance tonight, here’s Alvarado’s single, “Undreamt”:
