ARTS: Intersections: A New America Arts Festival kicks off at Atlas Performing Arts Center (1333 H Street NE) tonight with Flamenco dancing, a conversation with actor and artist Tom Teasley (Avatar, Terra Nova), 360-second plays, stories about queer culture, and more. The festival continues through March 11 with a variety of other performances. See the full schedule here. COMEDY: DCist’s own Ben Freed will compete against nine other journalists, including representatives from the Washington Post, NPR, WAMU, and elsewhere, for the title of “DC’s Funniest Journalist” at the Riot Act Comedy Theater (801 E Street NW) tonight. The judges panel will include Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton, DC Councilmember Jim Graham, Comedian Dennis Regan. Proceeds from the event will be donated to Writopia and REACH, Incorporated, two nonprofits that support literacy and writing for DC students. Doors 7:00 p.m., show 8:00 p.m. $20 in advance, $30 at the door.

MUSIC: William Fitzsimmons brings his epic beard and folk-rock sound to Sixth & I Historic Synagogue ( 600 I Street NW) tonight with Denison Witmer. 8:00 p.m. $23.

BENEFIT: Slow Food DC is holding a Winter Blues Fundraiser tonight to benefit Bread for the City (1525 7th Street NW). The event includes a silent auction, complimentary wine tasting, and food from DC Central Kitchen’s Fresh Start Catering. 6:30 p.m. Tickets: $55.
