High-profile wonks, prepare to answer in the form of a question! Jeopardy! is bringing its “Power Players Week” back to Washington in April, when a batch of television anchors, presidential historians and maybe even a few politicians will compete to determine who spends the most time inside the Washington bubble.
The shows, which will air mid-May, will be taped on Saturday, April 21 at DAR Constitution Hall. Anyone who wants to spend a spring weekend waiting to watch Washington Post columnists and Meet the Press regulars answer questions about, say, trade policy throughout history (or whatever), can apply for free tickets starting today at any location of My Eye Doctor optometrists and eyeglasses shops or any dealership owned by the Passport Auto group.
Um, I’ll take obscure local retailers for $1,000, Alex.
Speaking of America’s favorite effete Will Ferrell character: “I’m thrilled about going to Washington and hosting the show in front of such a large audience,” Jeopardy! host Alex Trebek said in a press release.
While the show won’t officially announce the participants, who will be playing for a $50,000 contribution to the charity of their choosing, until the actual air dates, the last time “Power Players Week” taped, in 2004, the lineup included television anchors Maria Bartiromo, Anderson Cooper, Tim Russert and Tavis Smiley; writers Doris Kearns Goodwin and Bob Woodward; and Al Franken (before he was a senator from Minnesota) and former New Jersey Gov. Christine Todd Whitman.
Jeopardy! is also taping its Teen Tournament at DAR Constitution Hall on April 20.
