Starting today and proceeding over the next two weeks, Metro will take public input on proposed fare hikes at six hearings in Maryland, Virginia and the District.

The first hearing takes place today in Bethesda, followed by Falls Church on Wednesday and the District on Thursday. (All the dates and locations are pasted below.) Each hearing will start at 6 p.m. with an open forum, and at 7 p.m. speakers who registered ahead of time will be given their chance to vent. (If you want to speak during the hearing, you need to sign up by calling 202-962-1133 or emailing speak@wmata.com.)

The hearings will address a menu of fare hikes that would see the cost of just entering the system during peak hours rise from $1.95 to $2.10 and the maximum cost for a trip jump from $5.00 to $5.75.

Last week Metro also posted an online survey on the fare hikes for those that might not be able to make it to the hearings. The survey will remain online until March 5.
