What happens when you move and move and move but don’t seem to get anywhere? Someone could surely describe that as the state of the city’s politics, but it’s also a new exercise regimen that will soon be available to D.C. councilmembers.
D.C. Council Chair Kwame Brown announced today that two treadmills would be made available in the Wilson Building for councilmembers and their staffs. The treadmills—which Brown insisted were used and donated—are being installed in lieu of a real gym but as a means to encourage the very exercise that the city’s august legislature often recommends everyone else do.
While in office, Mayor Adrian Fenty famously took an hour of his workday to ride his bike around town (sometimes with security, sometimes illegally). Brown himself is known as a hot yoga enthusiast, while Councilmembers Tommy Wells (D-Ward 6) and Mary Cheh (D-Ward 3) bike to work now and again.
