An elementary school in Adams Morgan was briefly evacuated Wednesday morning after a suspicious package containing an unidentified white powder was discovered. Police later determined that the substance was non-hazardous.
The Adams campus of the Oyster-Adams Bilingual School was evacuated for about two hours after the package was seen at 10:19 a.m., police said.
The school, at 2020 19th Street NW, educates fourth- through eighth-grade students. Roads around the campus were briefly closed while the Metropolitan Police Department’s explosive ordnance disposal team investigated the package, eventually finding it to not pose any threat.
No students came into contact with the powder or the suspicious package, WJLA reported.
The school and surrounding roads were reopened about 12:20 p.m., police said.
