Last December, we reported that the comedian Louis C.K. had been booked as the headliner for the annual Radio and Television Correspondents Association Dinner in June.

But earlier Friday afternoon, Louis C.K.’s agent told CNN’s Peter Hamby that the comedian was pulling out of the gig, saying that “he just didn’t want to do it anymore.” Little else is known right now about why Louis C.K., considered by many to be the best touring comic in the U.S., dropped the RTCA event.

One theory being floated by The Hollywood Reporter and other publications: Fox News Channel host Greta Van Susteren, who wrote yesterday that she would refuse to attend the dinner as long as Louis C.K. was the featured entertainment.

Van Susteren cited a profane Twitter rant Louis C.K. went on last year against former Alaska governor and 2008 Republican vice-presidential nominee Sarah Palin. But he later told GQ that he regretted the comments that earned him the derision of conservative activists.

Jay McMichael, a CNN cameraman who is organizing the dinner, confirmed Louis C.K.’s pulling out of the event in an email to DCist. McMichael had no comment on a possible replacement.
