The music world revolves around SXSW this week, but concertgoers not making the trip to Austin will have some appealing local options, starting with tonight’s performance by Roomrunner, a hard-hitting four-piece featuring former Double Dagger drummer Denny Bowen. Former bandmates of Bon Iver’s Justin Vernon in DeYarmond Edison, Megafaun’s Brad Cook, Phil Cook, and Joe Westerland released their self-titled third LP last year, smoothing over some of the experimental edges of their earlier recordings in favor of a more straightforward folk-rock sound. The trio headlines the Black Cat on Thursday night, with guitarist Wiliam Tyler (Lambchop, Silver Jews) opening. $12. 8 p.m.

Five months after her electrifying five-song mini-set at the 9:30 Club, Erika M. Anderson — a.k.a. EMA — returns to D.C. for what she says may be one of her final U.S. shows focusing on material from her widely-acclaimed solo debut, Past Life Martyred Saints. If you haven’t heard the bracing live versions of songs like “The Grey Ship” and “Red Star,” be sure to catch Anderson and her band at U Street Music Hall on Saturday night, with Vancouver punk trio Nü Sensae opening. $12. 7 p.m.
