Just in time for blooming of the cherry blossoms—and the traffic nightmares that accompany them—two of the five Capital Bikeshare stations planned for the National Mall opened today.

The first station that opened is along Ohio Drive near the Tidal Basin, while the second is by the Washington Monument. The five stations were given the go-ahead by the National Capital Planning Commission last month, a dramatic turnaround since the National Park Service complained last year that the Bikeshare stations would “destroy the nature” of the mall.
