Not a day after construction workers found an unexploded 1,000-pound military ordnance at a site of a mixed-use development near Nats Park, a cache of smaller shells and bombs were found today.

A tipster who works nearby sent us the picture above, effectively verifying what the spokesman of the firm developing the land told us earlier this morning—”Several times over the past several weeks of excavation, sitework has needed to be stopped temporarily due to the unearthing of munitions debris from the former operations of the Navy Yard on the site.”

In the near future, the site, which for over 150 years served as the Naval Gun Factory, will become a residential complex and a Harris Teeter. The development, known as The Yards, comes in a part of town that has seen explosive growth over the last five years. Some would even say that it has blown up, with more people and buildings than ever before. OK, that’s enough puns.
