>> A pregnant woman was stabbed in the torso in southeast D.C. on Friday delivered her baby, identified as Kuron Rashad Hunt. The baby was pronounced dead and police have ruled his death a homicide.

>> Geneticists at the National Arboretum are commemorating the cherry blossom centennial with a new breed of bud. The new, hybrid tree produces blossoms that are markedly pinker than the trees gifted to the District by Japan 100 years ago. Scientists have named the new additions “Helen Taft” after the first lady who had the idea to plant the trees around the city.

>> Speaking of Cherry Blossoms, the Washington Metro Area Transit Authority is taking a spring break from track work to accommodate the many visitors flocking to our fair city to see pink flowers, rally for reason and take part in other springtime activities.

>> The National Cathedral will open its central tower for one day, today, for its semi-regular tower climb. The tower, which was damaged in the earthquake last summer, has been deemed safe visitors to climb the 333 steps to the top of the tower.
