>> Former vice president Dick Cheney underwent heart transplant surgery on Saturday and is recovering at Inova Fairfax Hospital in Falls Church. Cheney, age 71, suffered five heart attacks since his late thirties and had congestive heart failure. He waited on the donor list for 20 months before receiving being called up for a new heart.
>> More than 1,000 protestors gathered in Freedom Plaza Saturday to call for an arrest in the shooting of Florida teen, Trayvon Martin. The rally was one of dozens that have been held in pursuit of justice for the death of the unarmed young man.
>> Since last weekend, thousands of viewers from over 100 countries have tuned into watch the live-stream of two baby bald eagles born in Richmond March 16 and March 18. The video is actually monitoring for a joint research project of Virginia Commonwealth University and The College of William and Mary called the Center for Conservation Biology. The center has been monitoring Virginia’s bald eagle population for decades.
>> Occupy DC’s general assembly married, by vote, two of their members Saturday afternoon. “The pair said they don’t recognize the state’s ability to legitimize their love and preferred to have their wedding presided over by fellow demonstrators,” reported WTOP.
