FRIDAY

PHOTOGRAPHY: This is your last weekend to check out the DCist Exposed exhibit at Longview Gallery (1234 9th Street NW). Head over today and tomorrow from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., or Sunday from 12:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. to see 40 fantastic photos from this year’s winners.

CONFERENCE: Take part in a Social Learning Summit tonight and Saturday, put on by American University’s Social Media Club, to hear from a variety of speakers on the latest trends in social media and technology. 7:30 p.m. Tickets $10.

MUSIC: Kids in America presents an “Anti One Hit Wonders” New Wave Dance Party at Dahlak (1771 U Street NW) tonight. Come out for “Life in the Gladhouse not Melt With You. Entertain Me not Tainted Love. My Heart Goes Bang not Right Round” and more. 10:00 p.m. Free.

SATURDAY

KITES: Let’s go fly a kite at the National Cherry Blossom Kite Festival this Saturday. 10:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Free.

SWAP: Exchange old clothing for new (to you) at the Hillyer Art Space (9 Hillyer Court NW) Swap Shop this Saturday. Local vendors will also be selling items. Leftover used clothes will be donated to Martha’s Table. 2:00-5:00 p.m. $10.

BOOKS: Food Network star Giada DeLaurentiis discusses her book Weeknights with Giada: Quick and Simple Recipes to Revamp Dinner with the Washington Post’s interim Food Editor Bonnie Benwick at Sixth and I Historic Synagogue (600 I Street NW) this Saturday. 8:00 p.m. $35 for admission plus one book, or $45 for admission for two plus one book.

MOVIE: Watch three classic Samurai films, including Samurai Rebellion at 11 a.m., The Hidden Fortress at 1:30 p.m., and The Sword of Doom at National Geographic Live’s (1600 M Street NW) Samurai Cinema event this Saturday. $5 each film, or a free pass to all when you buy a ticket to the museum.

>> AFI Silver Theatre (8633 Colesville Road Silver Spring, MD) always has an eclectic lineup of movie options for visitors. This Saturday consider their double feature (7:45 p.m.) of Best Worst Movie followed by Troll 2, which includes a live Skype interview with Troll 2 star George Hardy. Or, take part in the Things to Come future movie series with a screening of Logan’s Run at 9:45 p.m. $11.50.

FOOD & DRINK: Chef Paul Qui, winner of Top Chef season 9, and 4th runner up Chef Edward Lee lead an Asian Fusion Cooking Class at Asia Nine (915 E Street NW) this saturday. Each course (including fried-squid-and-bacon salad with ginger-apple zest, and crispy basil duck) will be demoed by the chefs, then paired with wines for attendees’ enjoyment. 12:00-2:00 p.m. Tickets: $75.

>> RIS (2275 L Street NW) is hosting an Easter Egg Decorating Workshop this Saturday. While you create egg-cellent egg art, you’ll enjoy a lite menu of grilled cheese, tomato soup, raspberry coconut cupcakes, and ice cream. 11:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m. $20 suggested donation (proceeds will be donated to DC Central Kitchen).

TAP DANCE: Renowned tap dancer Savion Glover (who I remember best from Seasame Street, but check him out on the Colbert Report) performs Saturday at Warner Theatre (513 13th Street NW). 8:00 p.m. $29-$59.

ART: Participate in DC SWAN (Support Women Artists Now) Day in a variety of locations this Saturday to see free music, theater, storytelling, film screenings, and art exhibitions. 12:00 p.m.-5:00 p.m.

GAMESHOW: You, Me, Them, Everybody brings This is a Game Show to Artisphere’s Dome Theatre (1101 Wilson Boulevard, Arlington VA) this Saturday. There will be special guests, fun, and prizes. 8:00 p.m. $10.

FASHION: Head to the 2012 Fashion Fights Poverty Dress Responsibly Gala at Artisphere (1101 Wilson Blvd Arlington VA) Saturday for cocktails, a fashion show, dance performance, silent auction, and to support a good cause. 7:00-10:00 p.m. $75 general, $150 VIP.

MUSIC: In her recent South by Southwest 2012 Scouting Report our Valerie Paschall noted that the Regents don’t just put on a good musical show, but the antics of their drummer are entertaining as well. Seem them play tonight with Imperial China and Ladder Devils at DC9 (1940 9th Street NW). 9:00 p.m. $10.

FOOD & DRINK: Bottomless cocktails, brunch food, and live jazz sound like a great way to end the weekend. Check it out at Station 4’s (1101 4th Street, SW) Jazz Brunch this Sunday. 10 a.m.-3:00 p.m. $25 (plus tax and tip).

GALA: Celebrate the cherry blossoms at the classy, and pricey, Hanami After Dark event at the Ronald Reagan Building & International Trade Center (Pavilion Room 1300 Pennsylvania Avenue NW) this Sunday. The evening will include a Maguro Kaitai ceremony (“the traditional ritual of breaking down an entire 150-pound tuna for sushi”), sushi, sake, and other food, and an art party and auction. 5:00-8:00 p.m. Tickets: $175.
