Good morning DCists. There is a lot happening in the District this morning, including the Cherry Blossom 10 miler and April Fool’s day. Here’s your daily news before you get to pranking.

>> There will be street closures until 10:30 am for the aforementioned Cherry Blossom 10 mile run. WJLA has the details.

>> Baltimore racetrack, Pimlico is pointing their marketing efforts toward a younger demographic at the beginning of a season that has started with waning crowds. A part of this push to cultivate more youthful betters and spectators has been to bring in big musical acts and the half-man half-horse mascot, Kegasus for their premier race, Preakness.

>> Political donor Jeffrey Thompson’s purse strings are held in the balance between business and D.C. politics. Mike Debonis at Washington Post has more.

>> An early voting center in northwest D.C. had to suspend voting for about 20 minutes Saturday afternoon after a man was shot outside.

>> Be careful who you ride with warns the D.C. Taxicab Commission. Seven people, six of whom were women, have recently been attacked by a cab driver. The attacks have taken the form of a punch in the face and being drug out of the cab.

>> WMATA tries to explain the seemingly large amount of broken, idle escalators in the Metro system.

>> Caps beat the Canadiens 3-2 in a shoot-out.

In other news, today will be my last day with you as weekend editor. I have so enjoyed the opportunity and trust you will be left in capable hands. I will always remember our time together fondly. Cheers, Erin
