Amid news that the head of the U.S. General Services Administration and his top two deputies are stepping down or have been fired due to excessive spending for a conference, the Post reports that former D.C. City Administrator Dan Tangherlini will be taking over the top spot at the federal agency in charge of leasing offices and procurement for other government institutions.

Tangherlini served has served in a number of local capacities, from chief financial officer for the Metropolitan Police Department to interim general manager of Metro. After Mayor Adrian Fenty was elected in 2006, Tangherlini accepted the post of city administrator, which he held until 2009, when President Obama picked him to be assistant U.S. treasury secretary.
