Good morning, Washington. We’re but a day away from the April 3 D.C. primary, so keep it here for our voter’s guide coming up later this afternoon.

D.C. Taxicabs to Install Panic Buttons: Many D.C. taxicab drivers complain of the dangers of their job, but it seems that the tables have now been flipped—it’s riders who are being threatened. WJLA reports that the D.C. Taxicab Commission has now taken to warning riders to beware of drivers after seven incidents in the past few weeks where drivers attacked riders. Six of those attacks were on women, and the commission is requiring that all cabs install panic buttons for riders by December.

Maryland Mega Millions Winner Staying Quiet: If you had just won a few hundred million dollars in the lottery, would you stay quiet about it? The Washington Times reports that a winner from Baltimore is remaining anonymous after being picked for the $656 million Mega Millions jackpot on Friday. (They’ll split the money with two other winners from Kansas.) The drawing, which attracted nationwide attention, had other interesting local links—nine stores in Virginia and Maryland sold tickets that netted their holders $250,000.

New Job Opportunity—Gum Removal Services: Think there isn’t money in removing gum from street and sidewalks? Think again. The Post reports that one D.C. residents makes $100,000 a year removing gum from just about any surface imaginable. Duane M. Cummins has been running a gum-removal service since 2000, using a special water-based solution and gum cart that turns the solution into steam that he then sprays on the offending substance. He charges between 15 and 40 cents a square foot, and has removed gum from everywhere from the CVS in Columbia Heights to outside of the American Museum of Natural History.

This Day in DCist: On this day in 2011, we were surprised to find out who in the region paid the highest taxes and Canada was to blame for the city’s black squirrels. In 2010, the Hirshhorn bubble was closer to reality (really?) and Kal Penn landed himself a job at the White House.
