With the D.C. primary slowly coming to an end, turnout across the city has been reported as light. WAMU’s Patrick Madden gathered a few of the tweets from some of the polling sites; more tweets are here, here and here.

There’s still four hours to go, though, and plenty of folks vote after work. That can include you. If you’re uninspired by the candidates, be inspired by the challenge of not allowing 2012 to go down as the year with the lowest turnout in a long, long time.

Looking over the numbers, we just have to beat the 10.30 percent turnout from last year’s At-Large Special Election. We can do that, right? (We’ve already tallied some 6,000 early votes, so that’s a start.) To be fair, though, this race has more candidates. The last time D.C. residents voted on this combination of D.C. Council seats was 2008, when turnout hit 13.80 percent. In 2000, it was 13.5 percent. In 1996, it hit 15.2 percent.

Let’s at least aim for 13 percent. Please.
