It’s probably a good thing that D.C. Del. Eleanor Holmes Norton won’t be running around like crazy next weekend trying to find pay stubs ahead of the April 17 tax-filing deadline. Today her office released information related to her tax returns:

Congresswoman Norton’s 2011 federal tax liability was $52,199 and her D.C. liability was $14,377. Federal taxes of $47,624 were paid through withholdings resulting in taxes due of $4,575. District taxes of $11,509 were paid through withholdings, resulting in taxes due of $2,868. Total income for 2011 was $236,846, including $83,775 in addition to her congressional salary. The $83,775 included interest, dividends, earnings from teaching a course at Georgetown University Law School, deferred compensation, required minimum distributions from her individual retirement accounts, social security benefits, and capital losses.

Late last year, the Post reported that while Norton certainly wasn’t the richest member of the House, she also wasn’t doing too badly for herself. In 2009, she was thought to be worth $1,697,521, good for 176th highest on the list of 518 current and former House members.

Since we have no senators and members of the D.C. Council aren’t required—nor encouraged—to release their own tax returns (despite the pleas of some), this is about as much as we’re going to get.
