It was quite the news: “Suspected meth lab found in Lanier apartment.” Wait, as in D.C. Police Chief Cathy Lanier? Holy criminal conspiracy, Batman!

Fortunately, no. The meth lab was found in the Lanier Heights area of Adams Morgan, reports the Post:

Investigators executed a search warrant in a building in the 1800 block of Summitt Place NW about 9:30 p.m. in the Lanier Heights area, said Officer Hugh Carew. Police arrested one man on a distribution of cocaine charge, but no charges had been filed in relation to the other suspicious substances,he said.

Authorities continued late last night to try to determine the contents in the high-rise apartment building at 1845 Summitt Place.

Earlier this year, a fire broke out at a suspected meth lab in a building at 16th and R streets NW in Dupont Circle.

No, D.C. isn’t seeing a meth scourge, at least not on the scale seen in other states. According to people we’ve spoken to with knowledge of the issue, meth in D.C. is often produced in small batches—known as the “shake and bake” method—and for personal use or sale to a few people at a time, primarily (but not exclusively) among the city’s gay community.
