Photo by Kevin HarberUgh, this is horrible. A man in the Langdon neighborhood of Northeast D.C. was arrested last weekend on charges he beat his roommate’s pet Yorkshire terrier to death, according to a press release from the Washington Humane Society.
Ishmaaiyl Mulheron, 23, was arrested April 8 after an investigation into a February report of a deceased dog in his apartment on the 1400 block of Montana Avenue NE, the Humane Society said. Investigators from the organization’s law-enforcement branch found a dead male terrier and later determined that it died of massive internal bleeding as a result of blunt trauma, according to the release. The dog suffered several internal hemorrhages to his head, chest and internal organs. Mulheron was the only person home when the 6-year-old dog was injured, the Humane Society said.
“This helpless dog suffered a horrific death,” Scott Giacoppo, the Washington Humane Society’s vice president for external affairs said in the press release. “This extreme and violent act of animal cruelty is appalling and the person responsible must pay for the abuse that ultimately cost an innocent animal his life.”
Mulheron, who was arraigned April 9, has a preliminary hearing May 2. If convicted, he faces up to five years in prison and fine of up to $25,000.
