TUESDAY

Mayer Hawthorne comes to the 9:30 Club with his brand of neo blue-eyed soul, riding the current retrograde infatuation with the smooth R & B sounds of the 70s and 80s. (We had a chance to talk to him about it.) The Stepkids open. 7:00 p.m., $20.

>>Black Cat: Say Anything, Kevin Devine and the Goddamn band, Fake Problems, TALLHART. 7:00 p.m., Sold Out.

WEDNESDAY

Just a mere few years ago, musical classification hit its nadir with chillwave; come to think of it, we had room to sink deeper. To the surprise of no one, the micro-genre’s moment has come and gone without a second thought. However, one of the more popular artists of the chillwave blip — Washed Out — has weathered the storm nicely, producing a lush, expansive album last year entitled Within and Without. Tonight, they’ll play the Black Cat along with Sub Pop label mates Memoryhouse. 8:00 p.m., Sold Out.

>>The Birchmere: Glen Campbell. 7:30 p.m., $75.

THURSDAY

If you’ve been following independent rock over the past decade, chances are you have at least one friend who swears by the brother/sister duo The Fiery Furnaces. The band — ambitious, prolific, and genre-defying — were hailed as the next big thing back in 2004 for its album Blueberry Boat, but its dense, layered songs were ultimately overlooked in favor of its far more palatable contemporaries (see: The Go! Team, The Arcade Fire). Last year, Eleanor Friedberger released her first solo album Last Summer, a charming collection of sun-drenched pop that flirts with accessibility. At The Black Cat with Merge indie-pop sensations Hospitality. 8:00 p.m., $15.

>>9:30 Club: Fountains of Wayne with James Iha. 7:00 p.m., $25.

>>DC9: Free Energy, Wildlife Control. 8:30 p.m., $12.

FRIDAY

A stellar night of live music at Comet Ping Pong including newly minted Park the Van signees Deleted Scenes along with the indescribable The Caribbean and Three Star alum Cigarette. 10:00 p.m., $10.

>>9:30 Club: Trampled by Turtles, These United States. 8:00 p.m., Sold Out.

>>Warner Theater: Daryl Hall, Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings, Allen Stone. 8:00 p.m., $55-125.

SATURDAY

From banned to enshrined: such is the trajectory of whatever is left of our beloved Bad Brains. Say what you will about the band’s current state — and one could say plenty — they have an inspired co-headliner in GZA, creating a refreshingly diverse line-up that feels novel yet intuitive. At the Howard Theatre. 8:00 p.m., $32. Friday’s show is Sold Out.

>>Black Cat: The Drums, Part time, Dot Dash. 9:00 p.m., $15.

>>Monteserrat House: All Our Noise re-design party with Sun Wolf, Buildings, The Plums. $12.

>> U Street Music Hall: Chairlift, Nite Jewel. 7:00 p.m., $13.

>>Rock and Roll Hotel: Typefighter, Monument, Shark. 9:00 p.m., $10.

SUNDAY

Former hardcore enthusiasts and current post-punk revivalists (and Matador recording artists) Ceremony come to RAS Hall with Night Birds, Sick Fix, and Thick Skin. 7:00 p.m., Sold Out.
