After a third day of barraging questions from the House Oversight Committee, the General Services Administration really got skewered last night when it wound up as the lead story on The Daily Show With Jon Stewart. There’s plenty to choose from in the flap over an October 2010 conference on which the GSA spent $822,000 to host a three-day conference at the lavish M Resort south of the Las Vegas Strip and the ensuing congressional inquiry: Rep. Jason Chaffetz (R-Utah) hated on the $75,000 activity in which conference attendees built 25 bicycles.

“That’s just $3,000 per futuristic rocket bike, so that’s not bad,” Stewart quipped. “Oh, they were not rocket bikes.”

And then there is the above photo of Jeff Neely, the GSA official in charge of the conference, in the luxe, 2,200-square-foot suite he stayed at during the conference. The Washington Post reports that Neely got the government rate of $93 a night for the spread, which usually goes for $1,179 a night.
