The Indianapolis Colts have reportedly made a verbal commitment to Stanford University quarterback that they intend to take him with the first pick of next week’s NFL Draft, effectively clearing the way for the Redskins to take Baylor’s Robert Griffin III with the No. 2 selection, the Post reports.

While Redskins fans have been expecting for some time now for the team to pick Griffin after a blockbuster trade in March, the Colts’ news only makes the unofficial that much more official. Now, the only thing preventing Griffin landing in one of those newfangled-but-not-all-that-new burgundy and gold jerseys is the Redskins’ history of choosing terrible quarterbacks.

Consider some of the quarterbacks the Redskins have drafted over the years: Colt Brennan (2008), Jordan Palmer (2007), Jason Campbell (QB), Patrick Ramsey (2002), Sage Rosenfels (2001) and Todd Husak (2000). Even if you remember any of those players’ time in Washington, you probably don’t remember it fondly.

So this is just a reminder to Mike Shanahan and his war room: Robert Griffin III, one of the most anticipated players in this year’s draft class and the reigning Heisman Trophy winner and a guy with a ton of charisma, is yours. Don’t mess it up. Again.
