The popular Around the World Embassy Tour kicks off Passport DC on Saturday, May 5 from 10 am to 4 pm. At this festival, presented by Cultural Tourism DC, more than 40 embassies will open their doors to welcome 20,000 residents and visitors. Guests will celebrate Cinco De Mayo with the Embassy of Mexico, sample vegemite at the Embassy of Australia, get a henna tattoo at Saudi Arabia’s Embassy, and much more. Start your journey at information booths near the Dupont Circle and Van Ness Metro stations. No reservations required for this free event, but ID is required to enter some embassies.
On Sunday, start your youngest international travelers on a global journey at the International Children’s Festival. Presented by the Meridian International Center and THIS for Diplomats, this interactive festival will feature cultural displays and actives from the embassies. The international stage hosts live performances throughout the day including Batala, an all-female Afro-Brazilian percussion band; Carpathia Folk Dance Ensemble, a Romanian, Ukrainian, Polish, and Gypsy dance group; and Happenstance Theater, the family-friendly clown duo presented by Alliance Française Washington, DC. The International Children’s Festival is Sunday May 6, 12 pm – 4pm at the Ronald Regan Building and International Trade Center.
