Thursday:
>> The last Thursday of the month once again means “Afrobeat 4 Ya Soul!” is back. DJ Underdog and special guest DJ DrewCool share music duties at Bossa. $5. 9 p.m.
>> Detroit native and electronic music legend Jeff Mills, a.k.a. The Wizard, is taking part in this week’s Forward DC festival’s techno showcase. He’ll be performing at U Street Music Hall. $30. 10 p.m.
Friday:
>> The Washington, D.C. region’s DMC DJ Battle will take place at U Street Music Hall where competitors are aiming to be named the area’s best turntable warrior. $5. 6 p.m.
>> Locally-based vocalist Tamara Wellons will be preforming music from her latest project, “Music For Janie”. The inspiration for “Janie” is based on the character of the same name from Zora Neale Hurston’s Their Eyes Were Watching God and Wellons’ show will combine theatrical and musical elements to tell the story. There will be one show held at Joe’s Music Emporium in Mt. Rainer on both Friday and Saturday nights. $20. 8 p.m.
>> The Sol Power All-Stars are at the U Street Music Hall this week where they’ll once again be highlighting music from the African diaspora. Free for 21 and older all night / $10 under 21 years old. 10 p.m.
Saturday:
>> Jeremy Ellis (pictured) is a master of the MPC as well as vocalist. The Detroiter will be headlining one of Forward DC‘s outside events at a lot at the corner of 2nd & L streets NE. 2 p.m.
>> DJ Dredd hosts his “1958” party, which pays tribute to three artists born in that year: Prince, Madonna and Michael Jackson. It all happens at the Rock and Roll Hotel. $13. 8 p.m.
>> The “Axel F.” party returns to celebrate ’80s music. This month’s edition will focus on electro-funk and other related robotic-themed sounds. DJs Stylus and Jahsonic will be selecting tunes along with special guest, DJ Book. Per usual, Liv is the venue. $5 before midnight / $10 after midnight. 10 p.m.
Sunday:
>> One of the D.C.-area’s most notable producers/rappers, Oddisee, spends most of his time elsewhere now but will be back in town as a part of Forward DC‘s “Flow” showcase at Garfield Park (3rd & G streets SE). Free. 12 p.m.
