Photo by NASASpace Shuttle Enterprise finally has some good weather to work with.
The shuttle, piggybacking on a 747, is set to be flown to New York this morning, where it will placed at the Intrepid Sea, Air and Space Museum. The shuttle was originally set to depart on Monday, but weather conditions prevented the 747 from taking off.
Once it reaches New York, it will fly over the city much as Discovery did over D.C. last week. Sister site Gothamist will surely be covering the event, though everyone knows the spacegasms are soooo much better in D.C.
If you’re hoping for another view of the shuttle as it leaves, you’re not likely to get one, sadly:
When Enterprise #OV101 takes off, we are not expecting any local DC area flyovers. It should make a gentle right turn towards the North.

It’s a bittersweet farewell for Enterprise. Though we got Discovery—which was actually used for space missions—Enterprise has been in D.C. since NASA decommissioned it in 1985. The shuttle was put on display at the Udvar-Hazy Center in November 2004.
