Performance Parking May Expand Citywide: Urbanists have long argued that the cost of on-street parking in D.C. doesn’t reflect the true cost of offering it or the demand for the spots. According to the Examiner, D.C. is hoping to do something about that by taking a performance parking pilot program from wards 1 and 6 and expanding it citywide. Under the program, parking rates aren’t static—they’re set by market forces, making parking in more desirable areas more expensive. City officials estimate that they could raise up to $3 million with the program.

Speeding Cameras Net Prince George’s County Over $8 Million: Ever since Prince George’s County installed 40 speed cameras in August 2011, more than 200,000 tickets have brought in $8 million in fines, $3.2 million of which has gone to the county, writes the Washington Times. But much like in D.C.—which has a similarly aggressive automated enforcement program—critics complain that the county is motivated more by profit than it is by safety.

D.C. Legislator Finds Money for Undocumented Immigrant Health Care: D.C. Councilmember David Catania (I-At Large) has restored $20 million in funding for a health care program that benefits 19,000 undocumented immigrants in D.C., writes the Post. Funding for the program, the Healthcare Alliance, had been cut by Mayor Vince Gray in his 2013 budget, causing Catania to worry that immigrants in D.C. might not be covered for specialty or emergency care at many local hospitals.
