D.C. Police Chief Cathy Lanier isn’t going anywhere—and she’s getting paid well for her troubles.

WTOP reports that Lanier has signed a new five-year contract that will see her maintain her current yearly salary of $253,000 but forego just about any future raises or bonuses spare one five percent retention raise available to all police officers on the force for 20 years.

When Lanier was first appointed to the job five years ago, she earned $175,000. Since then, she’s seen increases due to her length of service and labor union negotiations. She’s currently the fourth-highest paid police chief in the country, behind only Los Angeles, Chicago and Philadelphia.

Lanier’s salary was among those recently exempted from a law limiting how much senior D.C. officials can make. According to a December 2011 poll, she came off as the city’s most popular official, attracting the support of 78 percent of residents.
