The long-awaited May 19 rematch between D.C. boxed Lamont Peterson and Amir Khan was called off yesterday in the wake of this week’s news that Peterson tested positive for a banned substance. ESPN reports that the timing was too tight before the fight for boxing officials to properly consider Peterson’s arguments that he took testosterone pellets late last year for medical reasons.

Khan, who was vying to take back the welterweight titles Peterson took from him in a December fight in D.C., tweeted that “the only person to blame” was Peterson.
